teaching at Quilt Guild

I am teaching at our Quilt Guild this month!  We will be doing some wool applique.  I just love to applique with wool for a lot of reasons.  When the wool is felted (washed in hot water and dried) it has an amazing quality!  It does not unravel, or fray,  this means we don't have to turn the edges under ---hooray!

These are examples of the pincushions we will be making.  Luckily our guild is providing all the wool!  The only bad part about wool is that it gets a little pricey, and when you can share--it's awesome because sometimes you just need a little bit of a color.
This one is fun to embellish--antique buttons, ric-rac around the edge, beads for eyes.

I LOVE Americana and primitive things, so I just love this pincushion.  See how the texture of the wool and the irregularity of the hand dyed wool gives it so much character?

All of these have been stitched down using balck quilting thread.  You may also want to use a matching color embroidery floss.

These pincushions are filled with crushed walnut shells which gives them a wonderful weight.

I look forward to seeing all of you at 6:30 on March 10th at the Eden bowery!

Bring:  scissors, thread, needles, pen or pencil!!

California Week

We had a great trip to California, stopping in Vegas to sleep on Friday night.  We took the kids to see the Vegas strip at 10 p.m.--I think the party was just getting started as we were about to drop.
The next morning we drove to Vista and spent the night at Gramy and Papa's.   Eric's farewell was the next morning and it was so awesome!!!!  Mallory got the best sticker in Primary!  I stole it.

Family Home evening at Craig's

Here are a few pictures, I am working on a way to show more pictures faster.  Hopefully next week.

Happy Birthday Emma!!!

Happy Girl!!

Emma looks forward to her semiannual boating parties with her friends, always a good time, and this year was no exception.  After a long day of cake baking, decorating  we welcomed her friends and loaded them into the car and headed for the lake.  Everyone got wet, we could hardly keep the girls from jumping into the water every time we stopped.  All the girls tried wake surfing and there was only one girl who didn't get up, but she did the boogey board--success!!!   Tubing  was a big hit--2 groups, one a little more conservative than the other.  The wild group got tossed off and suffered a couple of head bumps, but they were tough.

We had lots of giggling and fun on the boat, then headed home for pizza, presents and the crazy cake.  While the pizza cooked they opened presents, fun stuff.  Then we ate outside and served the awesome cake.  This cake has been a dream of Emma's for a long time.  The spray icing didn't quite work as planned, but they made the best of it. Two different flavors, red velvet and coconut==coconut was the favorite.

Near the end of eating, somehow a water fight began, (GAbby or Kaylee???)  They brought out the water balloons and launcher and we were really excited to lauch at the neighbors...boys!!!   Sage had given Emma some punch balls which they filled up with water and bounced on the trampoline.  It was pretty cool.  It was a great night.

I think Emma had a great time,  and we had fun doing it for her!!!

This is for you, Jon!!!

Jumping out of my comfort zone, I have decided to do a family blog, as a way of recording our eventful life, and keeping our awesome missionary informed!  I hope this can be a great way of letting him, and others know what's going on in Huntsville.
